Shipley start with a defeat

SHIPLEY Hall defied the rain but couldn’t get past Clay Cross who eventually claimed victory by 37 runs.

Shipley won the toss and put Clay Cross into bat, Tom Starr taking a couple of wickets in his early spell.

But opener Adam Woodhouse proved a stubborn customer with a brave 71, and despite Shipley’s spinners Graham Farnsworth (3-39) and Danny Haddon (4-35) bowling well, Clay Cross progressed to 179-9 by the end of their innings.

Shipley lost Mark and Tom Starr early on but new acquisition Grant Small played a sound innings of 62 to give them a chance.

Andrew Bowley’s unbeaten 30 also played a part but Shipley were eventually all out for 142.
