Stanton Elks CC
Stanton entertained Nutbrook on a windy day at the stute and were invited to bat first.
Elks’ top three batsmen, Richard Barnes (25), Scott Law (32) and Matt Winfield (23), all got starts but none went on to get a decent score as Chris Goring bowled his 14 overs for 3-35, reducing the Elks to 86-4 after 27 overs.
Captain Ashley Fletcher (49no) then batted through the rest of the overs and along with Chris Marshall’s 33 took the Elks to a total of 177-6.
Law opened the bowling for the Elks and his excellent 2-14 was assisted by Marshall who also took two wickets, but Nutbrook’s opener John Wilson (41no), Chris Wilson (28) and Richard Henshaw (51no) saw their side end just 11 runs short on 166-5 and Stanton took the winning draw.
l The 2nd XI travelled to Melbourne and batting first struggled to 89 all out in 43 overs with only Tom Henshaw’s 20 offering anyresistance against some tight Melbourne bowling.
Wakefield was the pick of the home attack taking 3 for 26.
Needing only 90 runs Melbourne reached the target in just 18 overs with opener Stanley making 41 as Melbourne eased to victory by seven wickets.
