Stanton's perfect start continues with win over Rolls Royce

Stanton Tennis Club has continued its 100 per cent start to the Summer 2009 season of the Derby Area Tennis League after its mixed team recorded a resounding 9-0 home thrashing of Rolls Royce 4.

The visitors were one pairing short, gifting Stanton a three-rubber head-start, but the Ilkeston-based side soon set-about collecting the remaining sets as they consolidated their position at the top of Division Five.

Angela Johnson/Andrew Hickingbotham, Helen Pigram/Robert Hooker and Ros Shapland/Rob Kirk were all victorious by nine games to two against Rolls Royce 4’s first pairing.

Pigram and Hooker were 9-1 victors against the Derby-based team’s second pair, whilst the pairings of Johnson/Hickingbotham and Shapland/Kirk both recorded white-washes.

One more victory from Stanton’s remaining two matches should be enough to secure promotion back to Division Four, from which they were relegated following the Summer 2008 campaign.

Stanton Tennis Club is currently accepting memberships for the forthcoming year.

Adult memberships are priced at 40, with club nights taking place on Tuesday evenings at the tennis courts at The Stute on Hallam Fields Road in Ilkeston.

Club secretary Tony Buck can be contacted on (01773) 787 578.
