Swimmers in fine form at Worcester

In the second round of this year’s Arena League, Long Eaton Swimming Club’s ‘A’ team were in action at Worcester.

The draw for the gala put them up against two winning teams from the first round, so the team knew they had to pull out all the stops for and they did not disappoint.

With seven wins and some very close finishes, Long Eaton swam into second place behind a strong City of Derby team.

Krissy Tomlinson won both the 11-year-old 50 metres butterfly and freestyle, Oliver Davidson the 13-year-old 100 metres backstroke and Kay Goulden the 13-year-old 100 metres butterfly.

Hannah Jones and Kevin Wallbank, swimming in the 15-year-old age group 100 metres butterfly event, powered to victory in both the boys and girls events.

Chief coach, Spencer George, said: “It was an amazing result and I’m proud of the team’s approach to the challenge and overall commitment.

“I hope they will be rewarded with a place in the top six for the final round in December.”

Meanwhile, the ‘B’ team made the short journey to Derby for their second round gala.

Again, it was a difficult draw, but with everyone swimming well it was a great team effort.

There were individual wins for Erin Dilks in the 13-year-old age group 100 metres backstroke and Katherine Wheddon in the 15-year age group 100 metres breaststroke.

The swimmers will be on duty again this weekend at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge for the Derbyshire ASA 100, 200, and 400 metres Open Long Course competition and the 50 metre Sprint competition.
