Thomas Robinson has been named as the Trinity ABC Boxer of the Month for May.
The 17-year-old featherweight produced three outstanding performances in the ring in the final month of the season to seal the award but also displayed commitment, desire and courage as he prepared for some big tests as he entered the senior ranks.
Robinson gave the club a first win of the season in Grimsby back in October and also had the distinction of gaining the final victory of the season in Birmingham when he completed an impressive double victory over home town boxer Tom Larkin.
A busy month for the Trinity stylist also saw him make his debut for the Derbyshire ABA representative team in a team match against Essex in which he impressed despite dropping a tight split decision to Chelmsford’s David Moore.
The month of May saw Robinson reach his best form of a very productive season and achieve the performances that have made him one of the club’s most promising boxers, a fact recognised by the Ilkeston Advertiser when he was a runner-up in the Young Sportsperson of the Year category at the newspaper’s inaugural awards night recently held at the New Manor Ground.
Club leader Scott Rafferty said: “Thomas is fully deserving of this award and it is good to see him performing at this level.
“He has been a quality boxer for a while now and he is believing in his own ability and producing the goods in the ring.
“I hope Thomas sees this acknowledgement as the start of a very exciting future and continues to learn and improve and become the boxer we know he can be.”
