Tough day for Stanton Elks as both sides beaten

Stanton Elks firsts travelled to Denby on Saturday in Division Five North but were soundly beaten.

Batting first , Denby’s openers Ian Glenn and Chris Scott scored steadily until Glenn was bowled by Scott Law for 36.

That brought in Liam Glenn who found the boundary on several occasions on his way to an eventual 108.

Matt Winfield bowled Scott for a patient 19 and this brought in James Painter who made 45 before being bowled by Joe Bird.

Glenn was finally well caught by Matt Sisson on the long off boundary after a fine knock as Denby’s innings finished at 257-5.

Stanton’s openers Law and Matt Sisson set off well in reply putting on 54 before Law was given out caught behind off Andy Parkin for 26,

Sisson made 26 before being third out and James Perry and Bird both made 17, but Elks were eventually all out for 126 with Andy Parkin taking 6-30.

Stanton second XI hosted Stanton by Dale in a local derby and lost by seven wickets.

The hosts made 108 all out, Ash Goring top scoring with 25 and Richard Deeley starring for Dale with 6-31.

In reply, Dale passed their target with three wickets down in the 36th over, opener Brian Taylor’s unbeaten 49 key to the success, Daniel Daykin, Ryan Yallop and Alex McGinley taking a wicket each.
