West Hallam WR CC 1sts were in Marston’s Smooth Trophy semi-final action on Sunday but ended up losing by ten runs to their opponents Rolleston.

The game at Rolleston saw West Hallam win the toss and decide to bowl first at their Staff0rdshire-based hosts.

Rolleston got off to a good start through openers Gareth Marshall (36) and skipper Mark James (28).

After a flurry of wickets, they then recovered well through an innings of 49 from Muhammad Zaroob, allowing them to reach 180-9 from 45 overs.

Peter Hort, Carl Cruz and Thomas Brandrick all took two wickets each for West Hallam.

In reply, there was a steady start before Thomas Brandrick was dismissed for 19.

The main partnership of the innings was for the fourth wicket and saw Martin Brandrick team up with Josh Bostock to add 79 to the total.

Brandrick made 56 and Bostock 33 but eventually West Hallam fell just short of their target, being dismissed for 170 in 47.4 overs and therefore missing out on a place in the final.
