Kevin Wilson reflected on a frustrating encounter against Grantham Town at the New Manor Ground on Saturday and lamented the inconsistency of the match officials.
Ilkeston lost 2-0 and had defender Matt Baker sent off, a decision that enraged the Robins boss and which he felt changed the course of the game.
And having seen Grantham’s Deon Meikle only receive a booking for a similar incident later in the game, Wilson was left asking several questions of referee Robert Atkin afterwards.
He said: “Firstly, Matt shouldn’t have been sent off because Ryan Wilson is barely five yards away and ready to make a challenge had Paul Grimes got through.
“So that was bad enough, but then Tyrell Waite was brought down by Meikle who was only booked.
“Tyrell may not have reached the ball but then neither would Grimes at the other end as Ryan was covering, so in my eyes there’s no difference and when you’re looking for that bit of consistency, it wasn’t there.”
Wilson also believes an arduous 120 minutes of football at Buxton three days earlier in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, a match Ilkeston won 1-0 to reach the semi-finals, contributed to a flat display against Grantham.
He added: “We put in a low key display and I think Wednesday had something to do with that as it was a tough game in really difficult conditions.
“I don’t think we were good enough in certain areas but had James Reid taken his chance in the first-half I think it would have been a different game.
“Having said that, I didn’t see the result being anything other than a draw until the red card.”
On this weekend’s tough trip to fifth-placed King’s Lynn Town, Wilson added: “We’ve just got to dust ourselves down and get on with it. King’s Lynn will be tough but we owe them one after they beat us at our place so we’ll be aiming to get three points.
“Joe Maguire and Chey Adams will be back from suspension which will help and I hope Matty Richards will have recovered from his injury too.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ross Etheridge has had his loan from Derby County extended until the end of the season having impressed in the matches he’s appeared in so far. Tyrell Waite and Cheye Alexander, on loan from Notts County and Port Vale respectively, have had their deals extended by a further month.
