YOUR SAY - Fan reaction to Robins win over FC United

Ilkeston fans have been telling us their thoughts on Ilkeston’s 3-1 win over FC United on Saturday.

Season ticket holder Paul Skillington said: “Superb all round performance from the boys against arguably one of the best sides in the league and certainly one to be in with a shout of instant promotion.

“Once again we saw another side to our very young squad.

“With two key players missing (David Morgan and Akil Wright) for the biggest league game of the season in many fans’ eyes, the two asked to step in (Reid and Baker) were more than capable of filling their shoes.

“It shows us now the depth of the squad we’re so lucky to have.

“A three-goal blitz would normally see any team off, but in the second half we then witnessed a defensive masterclass, something that we know now we are more than capable of.

“Congratulations once again to all involved. Three points, yes, but better than that, the knowledge once again that we can compete with the very best at this level.”

Jon added: “I thought FC United had the better of the territory and possession but just couldn’t make it tell and we were perhaps a little lucky to beat them.

“We just kept hitting them on the break and their defence had no answer to our pace and, in this game at least, accurate passing and finishing.

“These comments shouldn’t be taken as me giving short shrift to our players though; this was the sort of thing (getting less than our play deserved) that was continually happening to us last season so it’s massive progress that we’re now dishing it out rather than taking it.”
