A ‘please touch’ exhibition of contemporary art for young visitors and their grown-ups is to be held at Mansfield Museum from December 17 to February 4.
Based on the creative exploration of materials, eight artists have come up with new work which has been designed to engage with pre-school children and their carers.
Before producing this work, each artist spent five days working with children in pre-school settings to develop a greater understanding of how they think, play, explore and create.
Participating artists are Linda Arkley, Lucy Fergus, Alex Hallowes and Pete Rogers, Kate Sully, Jason Taylor and Kathryn and Rachel Welford.
The exhibition is accompanied by an audience development toolkit which includes a Box of Delights handling collection. This comprises a mini-exhibit from each artist that relates to the work in the main exhibition, along with a selection of materials and an ideas sheet for each box.
These boxes are available for nurseries, pre-schools and foundation classes to borrow and are designed to encourage settings to visit the main exhibition, which is free to enter.
It is open Monday-Saturday from 10am–5pm (closed Bank holidays and Sundays).
