A TRIBUTE night in memory of Ilkeston DJ Alan ‘Big Al’ Parkes who died in July raised well over £1,000.

The event at the Sir John Warren on Sunday was organised by the former record shop owner’s good friends Allen Fleckney, who made the trip up from Cornwall, and Darren Rowley.

During a charity auction, which raised £920, Wendy Singleton became the proud owner of Big Al’s head phones after bidding a whopping £200. The money will go to Big Al’s three children Lorna, 10, Grant, 15 and Greg, 19. A raffle also raised £293 for British Heart Foundation.

One of 20 DJs on the night and a friend of Alan’s of 30 years Chris Hallam said: “It knocked our socks off how many people came out on the night. It was mind blowing.”
