Ilkeston artist’s unseen works on show

AN EXHIBITION of unseen paintings by Ilkeston artist Norman Whitehead are on display at Erewash Museum.

Norman, born in 1915, was a landscape painter and exhibited work at Ilkeston Arts Club’s annual exhibitions between 1933 and 1951.

In 1940 he submitted some of his work to an exhibition at The Whitechapel Gallery, London. It is thought most of his work was never exhibited.

After his death in 1983 a large collection of his work consisting mostly of watercolours was donated to the High Street museum.

The exhibitions last until December 15.
