American songwriter Nels Andrews plays Belper Rugby Club on Friday May 23.
Nels Andrews’ 2012 album Scrimshaw was probably the artistic breakthrough which attracted wider attention for this talented artist. Bob Harris acclaimed it as one of his favourite albums of the year and successful UK tours followed.
Some reviews variously described the material and performances as reminiscent of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, while others compared him favourably with Tom Waits.
What is certain is that all were impressed by the lyricism and beauty of his writing and the power of his live delivery.
Nels’s songs are finely crafted and carved to perfection and his Belper debut is long overdue.
Tickets are available from The Cherry Orchard, Market Square, Belper.
Admission is £8 and doors open at 7.30pm.
