THE opening concert in the new 2011-2012 Nottingham Classics season takes place on Friday, September 30, and features The Halle.
Conducted by Andre De Ridder, the orchestra will be playing the Scherzo Fantastique by the Czech composer Josef Suk – Dvorak’s son-in-law – followed by Dvorak’s much-loved Cello Concerto.
Also in the concert will be two works by French masters that take as their subject the vastness of the sea. These are Ravel’s Une Barque Su L’Ocean and Debussy’s impressionistic masterpiece La Mer.
The cello soloist for the concerto will be the returning German performer Alban Gerhardt.
Tickets cost £10-£32 and the concert begins at 7.30pm.
