AN ILKESTON teenager is celebrating after making it through to the next round of a national music competition.
Alice Maciborskyj, 15, auditioned for the Open Mic UK 2011 in front of judges at Birmingham’s NEC.
Kirk Hallam College student Alice is now competing for a place in the national final at The O2 in London and the chance to grab a breakthrough recording contract.
Alice’s mum, Elaine, told the Advertiser: “Alice was nervous before a gig but she always is.
“She was thrilled and shocked that she got through first time trying, she thought she would get a call back if she was lucky, her auditon song was Moves like Jagger as she is a huge Maroon 5 fan and saw them earlier in the year at the 02 in Birmingham.
“She’s still debating what to do for the regional finals but it will include one of her own numbers as well as a cover.
“She’s just taking it all in her stride at the moment and doing her best and hopefully that will be enough to get her through to the next round.”
