CHART-TOPPING stadium rockers Simple Minds are to play a major outdoor show at Sherwood Pine Forest Park, Nottinghamshire, in a gig organised by the Forestry Commission.
The performance will take place on Saturday, June 18 and will see the Scottish rockers, still fronted by legendary singer Jim Kerr, follow in the footsteps of music icons like Paul Weller, The Beautiful South and Mick Hucknall, who have all played in the rustic venue near Edwinstowe.
Chris Bray, from the Forestry Commission, said: “Sherwood has emerged as one of the great venues for live music in the East Midlands. We can look forward to another great midsummer night’s music.”
Capacity for the gig is set at 5,000 and once again the stage will be built in a tree-lined auditorium in heart of the beautiful 3,000-acre woodland.
Classic songs like Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself, Don’t You (Forget About Me), Promised You A Miracle, Waterfront and Belfast Child established Simple Minds with a global audience with a run of No 1 albums including Sparkle In the Rain, Once Upon A Time and Street Fighting Years, propelling them to supergroup status in the UK.
Special guest support for all dates will be Starsailor frontman James Walsh.
Tickets cost £35 (subject to booking fee), available from the box office on 03000 680400.
