Two of the best bands of the NWOBHM movement have reformed and will play a show at Nottingham’s Rock City on July 19.

NWOBHM stands for the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal , the name given to the explosion in heavy rock that took place in the UK in 1979 and gave birth to giants like Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard.

Mansfield-based Savage will link up with Cardiff’s Persian Risk for the special show before heading off across Europe for a series of major gigs.

Both bands enjoyed huge success in the 80s with Savage having one of their songs covered by Metallica and supporting the US superstars on a European tour promoting their album Loose N Lethal, while Persian Risk were the band that launched the career of Motorhead’s Phil Campbell and were, and are, fronted by ex-Krokus and Geezer Butler band vocalist Carl Sentance.

Savage have recently released their latest album Sons Of Malice and will be playing a few songs off that amongst their old classics such as No Fit Place, Berlin and Cry Wolf.

Tickets are £10 in advance or £12 at the door with the show starting at 7pm.

This weekend, Rock City welcomes Vega, Santa Cruz and Mia Close for a gig there on Saturday, July 6.
