Belper-born Dawn Sherley-Dale (nee Oldknow) returns to her home town on Saturday, May 19, in the company of chamber choir Voxcetera, to perform a cross-section of traditional and contemporary songs from around the British Isles.
The concert will take place at Christ Church in Bridge Street, at 7.30pm.
Dawn moved to London in 1983 where she continued and developed her interest in choral singing. In autumn 2009, with conductor Jane Hopkins, she founded Voxcetera, a chamber choir of 12 to 16 hand-selected singers who between them have many years of musical experience, performing traditional and contemporary choral works, opera, film scores, television sound tracks and popular music.
The concert will take the audience on a musical tour of the British Isles, with beautiful arrangements of folk favourites such as Loch Lomond and Danny Boy, as well as choral anthems by English composers Handel, Tallis and Purcell.
Conductor Jane Hopkins said: “The year of the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the rich choral music of our homeland, especially with this visit to such a beautiful part of the country. We’re excited to be coming to Derbyshire.”
Tickets are available on the door or from 01773 882746. They cost £8, to include a glass of wine.
