CENTRAL Operatic Society members return with their latest show, a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King And I.
It can be seen at Landau Forte College, Derby, from March 6-10.
Imagine a far eastern country before the advent of telecommunications, where children had never heard of snow, never seen ince, believed the world was flat and have never seen an eye glass.
The King And I is not only a wonderful musical filled with a rich orchestral score, heart-wrenching melodies, stunning costumes and entrancing scenes, it provides us with an opportunity to see our peculiar, evolving Victorian western culture through ‘new’ eyes.
The show contains all you would expect of a Rodgers and Hammerstein smash hit: a ballet sequence, memorable characters and fabulous numbers such as Shall We Dance, Getting To Know You and March Of The Siamese Children.
The show is directed by Nigel Taylor with musical direction by Lisa Mills and choreography by Anne George.
Evening performances are at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
Tickets are available from Barrie May on 01332 737034.
