Friday, February 20, marks the return to The Flowerpot in Derby of one of the country’s best blues guitarists.

Stan Webb, who will be paying his latest visit with band Chicken Shack, has played with some of the very best musicians in the history of the blues.

His dynamic guitar style and huge stage presence have made Chicken Shack a firm favourite with rock and blues fans everywhere.

It’s 45 years since Stan Webb started Chicken Shack and upped sticks to Hamburg and the famous Star Club. Barely two years later, he was back in the UK and riding the top of the charts with I’d Rather Go Blind with the band’s new vocalist Christine Perfect (aka McVie), later of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours era.

Their first two albums - 40 Blue Fingers Freshly Packed And Ready To Go, and O.K. Ken - stormed into the top 20 in the late sixties, whilst the singles When The Train Comes Back and Tears In The Wind spent a combined 19 weeks in the top 30.

Throughout an acclaimed career, Stan Webb has played and recorded with the very best, including Stevie Wonder, Howling Wolf, Taj Mahal, Canned Heat and Peter Green. Stan Webb and Chicken Shack show no sign of slowing down, continually touring the U.K. and Europe to packed houses and rave reviews.

British Blues really doesn’t get better than this!

Special guest on the night is the Ali Clinton Band. Ali is ‘second’ guitarist in the legendary Uli Jon Roth’s band and for those who have been to any Uli gig & seen him in action, you’ll know to expect a dynamite performance, with this, his brand new ‘solo’ unit.

Then, on Saturday, February 21, David Bowie fans are in for a treat when Jean Genie perform their tribute to Bowie’s music at the King Street-based venue

Jean Genie was formed in 1993 following the discovery of the David Bowie look and soundalike artiste John Mainwaring. The band very soon became known for their flamboyant stage show with its many impressive claims to fame.

Jean Genie were one of the first tribute bands to play alongside the original Spiders from Mars at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert after-show party, when they played before stars Joe Elliott (Def Leppard), Roger Daltrey (The Who) and Roger Taylor (Queen) and many others.

Songs performed in the shows include the classics ‘Heroes’, Let’s Dance, Life On Mars, Rebel Rebel, The Jean Genie, Under Pressure, Ashes To Ashes and many others.

Meanwhile, the latest in the free weekly Acoustic Wednesdays sessions in the bar at The Flowerpot takes place on February 25.

Performing a set of acoustic rock and blues will be Flowerpot favourites Woolley and Archer.

Doors open for all three gigs at 8pm. Admission is £12 for Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack and £10 for Jean Genie.
