TV stars heading for Chesterfield Pomegranate Theatre in stage version of By The Waters Of Liverpool

Period drama By The Waters of Liverpool will be staged at the Pomegranate Theatre from November 1 to 3.

The cast is headed by Sian Reeves who turned up in Coronation Street as the air hostess ex-wife of Tim Metcalfe. Sian appeared in Emmerdale for 11 years, playing Sally Spode who was the ex-girlfriend of Ashley Thomas.

Mark Moraghan, who has spent 15 years in Heartbeat in the roles of Roy Leamis/Luke and played Greg Shadwick in Brookside, will also be performing in the play. He is best known as the narrator of Thomas & Friends children’s series.

Parry Glasspool is best known for his role as Harry Thompson (son of Tony Hutchinson) in Hollyoaks, a role he played for four years before he was killed off in 2019.

Lucy Dixon also furthered her acting career through Hollyoaks where she played Tilly Evans until 2014. Prior to appearing in the Channel 4 soap, Lucy played Danielle Harker in Waterloo Road until 2010.

Eric Potts played the lovable baker Diggory Compton in Coronation Street for seven years until 2006.

Helen Forrester’s autobiographical story By The Waters Of Liverpool is set in the 1930s after the author’s father went bankrupt during the Depression. Her family were forced to leave behind the nannies, servants and comfortable middle-class life in the South West of England and chose Liverpool to rebuild their shattered lives. Taken out of school to look after her siblings, Helen is treated as an unpaid slave. So begins a bitter fight with her parents for the right to go out to work and make her own way in life. With Britain on the verge of war, the 20-year-old Helen has never been kissed by a man….but things start to look up when she meets a handsome seaman.

The new production of By The Waters Of Liverpool features sizeable chunks from author Helen’s best-selling volumes of autobiography Liverpool Miss and Lime Street At Two plus flashbacks to Twopence To Cross The Mersey.
