A FORMER miner has brought in this photograph of his old workplace just a few years before it closed down.
Elwyn Webster, of Heanor Road, took this photograph of Woodside Colliery in 1963, two years before he retired after working there for 20 years.
It closed down for good in 1966.
“They were a good crowd that worked there with me,” said Elwyn, 80.
“I still see a few of them around town now and then.”
Elwyn’s dad was also a miner at the pit, now in the grounds of Shipley Country Park and the former American Adventure theme park.
He gave Elwyn his first five shilling wages, which he has still got today.
