Members of Ilkeston History Society are hoping readers can help them out with this picture of a charity football match from the early 1950s.
It was taken from either the Advertiser or the defunct Ilkeston Pioneer and shows a football match between the girls team, The Kirk Hallam Cowslips, and the boys, The Kirk Hallam Killers, on the local playing fields.
The piece stated that the game descended into a rugby match after half time with the girls eventually winning four goals to two goals ‘and a try’.
It was organised in 1951 or 1952 for a local man who was unable to work.
The picture was found in late society member Mike Jobling’s papers.
