£10k to get kids dancing

Junior school pupils are getting active and cooking up tasty treats thanks to a whopping £10,000 grant from the lottery.

New headteacher at Cotmanhay Juniors Simon Robinson said he was delighted with the cash grant from the Big Lottery Fund, which will pay for after school activities.

A cookery club, run by school staff, a gymnastics group, street dance sessions and even T’ai Chi lessons are now up and running at the Beauvale Drive school.

And, Mr Robinson said, they were all chosen by the children.

“Most of the clubs will run after school and allow us to provide a curriculum with greater breadth than many other local schools,” he explained.

“We are aiming to build on the positive impact the Olympic Games had on our pupils and educate them in healthy lifestyle choices.

“We are really grateful to the National Lottery and the Big Lottery Fund.”
