An Ilkeston community centre in calling on the public to join together to help raise thousands of pounds towards replacing its ageing roof.
The Cantelupe Centre, on the Market Place, is a charity which provides venues for other groups and organisations.
Now it is calling for the community to help it raise £50,000 to replace its roof.
Helen Crisp, from the centre, said: “The Cantelupe Centre is a big building with a very big heart and it is a huge asset to the people of Ilkeston.”
The centre receives no funding and relies on the fees it charges and the small amounts raised through donations.
Mrs Crisp said: “We manage - just, but the centre needs a new roof, and while our current income keeps us running it doesn’t go much further.
“The roof is not about to fall in, but we need to address this matter before it becomes really urgent.”
After initial quotations, Cantelupe estimates it will need to raise upwards of £50,000.
The roof appeal will be officially launched on Saturday July 30, with Erewash MP Maggie Throup officiating.
Mrs Crisp added: “We are hoping that everyone in Ilkeston will support the appeal in whatever way they can.
“We ask them to look out for events and happenings and be a part of them whenever possible.
“If anyone has any brainwaves or useful contacts, we would really like to know.
“Or if there is anyone willing to make a donation, that would be great too.”
