A DIAMOND Kirk Hallam couple have celebrated 60 years of happy marriage this week with a surprise party.
Ethel and Clarence Wilson celebrated with their big family of five children, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren after their big day on Thursday.
The pair were married on May 5, 1951, at Ilkeston Registry Office and have lived in Kirk Hallam all their lives.
Retired cleaner Ethel, 79, said: “I think we have done well – we never fall out.”
Clarence, 83, worked at Stanton Ironworks for 50 years, from the age of 14.
The couple received a visit from Mayor of Erewash Cllr Robert Parkinson and a card from the Queen on Thursday.
