Erewash MP Jessica Lee has welcomed Government plans to spend £80m improving a busy M1 junction used by commuters in and out of Ilkeston.
Junction 25 at Sandiacre is to be improved as part of more than £100bn worth of investment into infrastructure nationally within the next seven years.
The programme was revealed by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander on Thursday (June 27) in the House of Commons.
Miss Lee said: “This is fantastic news for both Erewash and the wider East Midlands.
“I will always push for infrastructure projects such as the campaign for Ilkeston railway station and new road improvements.
“This all helps to highlight Erewash on the map, as a great place to live and work and to set up a business.”
To boot there will be £175m worth of improvements made at the Little Eaton, Markeaton and Kingsway roundabouts on the A38.
“This is an ambitious plan to build an infrastructure that Britain can be proud of,” Mr Alexander told the House of Commons.
A total of £50bn of improvements are scheduled for 2015 to 2016.
In last Wednesday’s Spending Review, Chancellor George Osborne said that the economy was ‘out of intensive care’.
