Ilkeston FC Academy is celebrating after it has been rated good following their first-ever Ofsted inspection.
According to chairman Dave Mantle, whose company SR Education delivers the education aspects to the club’s 40 scholars, the Ofsted verdict is “a very important milestone for the football club.”
On-field progress within the Academy has been clear to see with the youngsters reaching the Second Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup and a succession of promising players forcing their way into the first-team picture.
But the education aspects of the Academy have always been given high priority and Mantle added: “To come through the Ofsted with flying colours is really pleasing.
“It sheds a positive light on all the hard work that’s being done by the coaching and teaching staffs.
“The inspectors observed practical coaching sessions and spoke to the learners and staff before reaching their conclusions.”
All students at the academy are studying sports related courses and the qualifications they gain will enable them to develop careers within the sport and leisure industry.
