EREWASH MP Jessica Lee has spent the weekend in Afghanistan, where she talked with servicemen, including one from Ilkeston.
Ms Lee met men and women from the Royal Engineers as well as Royal Marines at Camp Bastion as part of a delegation from the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme of which she is a member of the RAF division.
She said it was ‘fantastic’ to meet the Ilkeston soldier, who serves with the Mercian Regiment.
“It is a real privilege for me to have the chance to go to Camp Bastion and meet with our service men and women,” she said.
“I was also able to see for myself the different types of land vehicles and equipment used during operations and received strategy updates from senior officers.
“Most importantly I was able to spend time with our brave service men and women to thank them for what they are doing and to reassure them that everyone at home was thinking of them.”
