An Ilkeston church celebrated another year of work in the community with a special service attended by local dignitaries and school children.
Arena Church, on Rutland Street, held its annual community service on May 22, attended by the mayor of Erewash Councillor Abey Stevenson and Maggie Throup MP.
Schools including Cotmanhay and Chaucer Juniors, and the church’s Acorns children’s project, were involved too with some taking the stage to perform for the congregation.
Church member Jono Kirk said: “We wanted everyone to take part in a service that celebrated the many great things happening around Ilkeston and the surrounding area.
“It was a brilliant, packed-out morning with a great response on all fronts. There’s nothing greater than seeing a community united together and cheering one another on.”
Arena Church was founded in Ilkeston in 1929, and has undergone under various changes in name and leadership since.
With a second site recently opened in Mansfield, it is described as a multi-generational church with diverse people who have a shared passion and love for community service.
It operates a foodbank, support programmes, furniture and clothing banks, an ex-offenders training programme, and groups for children and vulnerable people.
