Stage-struck pupils at Awsworth Primary School wowed a packed audience at Nottingham’s Albert Hall to win the East Midlands Great Big Dance Off... Primary and Junior Schools championships.

And the school has been rewarded with a place in the national finals which will be held later in the year.

The 28-strong all-conquering Awsworth contingent rolled back the years with their 1940s-inspired dance routines to impress the panel of judges.

Looking the part in authentic costumes, Awsworth’s pupils from Year 3 to Year 6, have been rehearsing the routines for four months.

“All the time and effort and practice has paid handsome dividends,” commented proud teachers Claire Watson and Linda Stokes, who directed the pupils during their routines.

Dancing to a medley of music from Glenn Miller, in a category billed as In the Mood for a Boogie Woogie, Awsworth’s performers fulfilled all the judges requirements.

Awsworth eventually racked up a final points tally of 356 to lift the Great Big Dance Off trophy.
