THE DEATH of a seven-week-old baby remains a mystery after the coroner recorded an open verdict at an inquest into his death.

A doctor told South Derbyshire Coroners’ Court that the medical cause of little Finnley Braisby’s death in March this year was pneumonia, but added that there were other factors that could have contributed to the newborn’s tragic death.

Paul McCandless, assistant deputy coroner, said the pathologists findings suggested that Finnley could have been unintentionally smothered as he slept on the bed with his dad, Danny Braisby – but concluded he could not prove it one way or the other.
