NEW bike racks have been fitted at an Ilkeston primary school this week thanks to the school council and Derbyshire County Council.
Pupils at Ladywood Primary in Kirk Hallam wanted somewhere to store bikes and scooters to encourage children to ride to school.
The school council said: “As a School Council we have noticed that more and more children are coming to school on their bikes and scooters and having nowhere safe to leave them.
“We asked Miss Lawson about bike racks and have been really lucky and been able to get some money so that we can afford to buy three bike pods.”
Assistant headteacher Dave Cates added: “As a way of encouraging more pupils to use their bikes and scooters they wanted to try and raise some money to buy some bike racks. They made an application to DCC and were fortunate to obtain some money.”
