A pizza shop and off-licence in Ilkeston has surrendered its alcohol licence after a 15-year-old suffered a head injury whilst drunk.

Gurnek Singh Bhatti and Jasbir Kaur Bhatti gave up their licence to Erewash Borough Council after the incident.

They ran the alcohol delivery service as part of their pizza business at 7 Nottingham Road.

The Police Licensing Team identified the store as delivering alcohol to the teenage boy and the licensees were found to be in breach of their licence conditions by delivering alcohol without food sales and delivering alcohol to minors at a home address.

Cllr Barbara Harrison, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for environment, said: “We work closely with the trade to make sure people selling alcohol understand their responsibilities, licence conditions and the laws surrounding their business.

“The sale of alcohol to minors is a criminal offence and we as the licensing authority will not hesitate in revoking a trader’s licence or taking the matter further if there is any breach of the law.”
