A SCHOOLGIRL inspired to raise cash for cancer patients after finding out a family friend was ill raised more than £2,000 for an Oncology ward at Nottingham City Hospital.
Brooke Cannon, ten, was nine when she cycled the 15 miles from the family home on West End Drive, Ilkeston, and followed the Nutbrook Trail to Long Eaton and back.
Her Nana, Kathryn said: “We’re all so proud of her. When she first found out about Maureen she was so upset and really wanted to do something.
“She set out to raise £100 so she’s amazed by what she’s achieved and Maureen’s really glad she inspired her.
“We’re all waiting to see what she wants to do next.”
The money has been donated to the Berman Two ward, where Maureen was treated, at Nottingham City Hospital.
