Staff at Ilkeston based firm Ward Recycling are celebrating after being named as the fifth fastest growing export company in the UK.
The Times ranked the Quarry Hill Road Industrial Estate based business fifth on a list of the top 200 privately-owned British firms in terms of export sales.
In the past two years sales at Ward, which recycles scrap metal and only began exporting four years ago, have increased by 252 per cent to £20.6 million.
Toby Potter, business and development director at the firm, said: “We’re ecstatic. It’s been very hard work and as a result we’ve become a stronger company.
“We have pushed very hard and continue to strive and grow during the poor economy.
“Market conditions are tough at the moment, although with the right amount of hard work from our strong team, I’m sure we’ll be able to continue our growth.”
The family run business employs about 150 people at its two sites in Ilkeston and Swadlincote.
The firm collects scrap metal from all over the UK and then sends it to foundries and steelworks worldwide.
Donald Ward said: “This is a really big success for all of us here at Ward.
“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved and we’re of course thankful to everyone involved in helping us get to where we are.
“We hope that we can continue to expand and provide more employment opportunities for local people.”
