Ilkeston FC were certainly on the ball this week as bosses announced a plan to tackle growing unemployment in town.
The club, which is owned by Nottinghamshire-based SR Education, revealed plans to offer two training courses to residents via Ilkeston Job Centre.
Both eight-week courses are planned to lead to employment either with the Awsworth Road-based club or with nearby clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Derby County.
After the first course Ilkeston FC will recruit up to 16 adults for an intensive customer service and telesales course, at the £100,000 classroom facility at the New Manor Ground.
The second programme will see unemployed adults train as match-day stewards, who will be assessed at live games at Ilkeston FC, leading to qualifications which will enable them to apply for work with both event management companies and local football clubs.
Club chairman Dave Mantle said: “We will be working hard with other local employers to place our trainees into work following the programme and there will also be opportunities for some of the candidates to work for us at Ilkeston FC.”
Both courses are due to start in July. Applicants must be at least 19-years-old and unemployed.
