Staff from an Ilkeston supermarket got their paws dirty and made some new furry friends when they volunteered at a dog rescue centre.
The group of ten Tesco employees gave up their day off on May 4 to spend time at Babbington Rescue in Awsworth.
The day was organised by checkout team leader Sarah Barratt, 49, who said: “Tesco likes to support communities wherever possible. We’ve done a few litter picks, and recently helped an elderly customer dig out her garden.
“We have a collection basket for the rescue centre in our store, and our customers are really good at donating food for it—so we thought we’d give something back too.”
Sarah and her colleagues, took donations of food, bedding and towels, repainted the kennels, took the dogs for walks and bathed them.
She added: “We got a bit wet, but we all enjoyed it as much as the dogs.”
In fact, some enjoyed it so much they took dogs home and plan to volunteer again.
Sarah, an animal lover who also keeps chickens, ducks, parrots and two other dogs, said: “I was in reception and a woman brought in a Jack Russell called Louie.
“He’s partially blind and has problems with his legs, but he’s adorable and deserves a good home.”
