The hunt starts for area’s top traders

THE search is once again on to find the top traders in Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres.

The annual Good Town Trader Awards have been launched this week and we are looking for your nominations for those places that go the extra mile.

Shops, cafés and pubs, market stalls and other establishments are eligible for the Town Trader Awards schemes which recognise those businesses that offer top-notch customer service and represent general excellence in our towns.

The scheme is organised by enterprise agency Erewash Partnership together with the borough council’s Pride in Erewash campaign, and is supported by us here at the Ilkeston Advertiser.

The aim of the awards are to highlight the attraction of shopping locally, particularly in the two town centres.

Businesses are nominated and voted for by customers and the winners will receive a trophy and certificate.

The ten categories in each town are: best restaurant/café; best pint and pub grub; best place to buy food; best customer service; most attractive market stall; most baby and child friendly trader; store most friendly to people with disabilities; cleanest shop front; best window display, and super sandwich.

Cllr Geoff Smith, portfolio holder for planning and regeneration, said: “These awards are important to the businesses and their owners because they are voted for by the most discerning of judges, the customers.

“We know from past experience that the winners are proud of their achievements and the votes of confidence from the people who matter most to any business.”

Simply fill in the form printed here to put forward your nominations. Forms are also available from shops and other businesses, the Partnership website at and the and websites.

Completed forms must be returned to the Partnership offices at The Old Police Station, Wharncliffe Road, Ilkeston, DE7 5GF; Ilkeston Town Hall, Long Eaton Town Hall or the Advertiser offices by 5pm on Friday December 16.

The winners will be revealed in the new year.
