A talent for making tasty cakes led Ilkeston woman Tracey Davies to start up the Little Red Door Cake Company.
Tracey, 29, who bakes from her kitchen at home in Ilkeston, started the company in January following rave reviews about her creations.
She said: “I’ve been baking for friends and family for a few years then last year I made a a cake for a leaving party. It was really the first time that anyone had seen my cakes and all the parents were raving about it and said I should set up a business. Then one day I thought ‘o.k, I’ll give it a go’ and went from there. It was a leap of faith.”
The business is going well so far meaning Tracey has been able to drop a day at the nursery in Oakwood that she works in. She had orders for five wedding cakes, one of which had seen her cakes on Facebook. She even had a request to do a divorce cake with a gruesome scene played out on between the bride and groom on top of the cake.
Past creations have included a cake for a children’s birthday party which had a hot tub on top and edible models of the two children.
She said: “I got the bug after making cupcakes for my hen do. I always use the best ingredients I can get. Everyone raves about my chocolate mud cake and go mad for my choc chip caramel heaven cupcakes.”
