The number of councillors on Erewash Borough Council looks set to reduce.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published its final recommendations for new electoral arrangements for the authority.

It follows a public consultation on its draft proposals and draws new boundaries for each council ward.

The commission’s final recommendations propose that Erewash should be represented by 47 councillors in the future, four fewer than the current arrangements. The recommendations also propose that those councillors should represent ten two-member wards and nine three-member wards across the borough.

Max Caller, chairman of the commission, said: “We are grateful to people who took the time to send us their views. The commission considered every piece of evidence it received before finalising these recommendations.”

The proposed new arrangements would have to be implemented by Parliament.
