Police are appealing for people who may have had memorial plaques stolen from relatives’ graves after several were recovered from an Ilkeston scrap merchant.

Officers recovered the plaques on January 15 and have identified one of them as being stolen from Marlpool Cemetery in Heanor.

It is believed they were taken some time in January.

Police want to trace anyone who may have had plaques stolen recently in the names of Charles Henry Williamson, Ernest Rogers, Frances Daisy Freeman, Glynn Leary, Herbert and Gladys Booth, Lily and John Priestly, Thomas Edwin Beer and William Alvin Priestly.

Investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who recognises the plaques or has any information about the thefts.
