A STAPLEFORD skate park, which has fallen into disrepair, has received a welcome £28,000 boost.

As well as receiving new equipment including two 20ft quarter pipes and a 5ft volcano ramp, there are plans to install CCTV cameras, floodlights and fencing at the Hickings Lane park.

Nottinghamshire County Council has provided £20,000 and the project will be overseen by special projects officer Ross Marshall, who is also a keen BMX rider and skateboarder.

He said: “We’ve listened to the young people’s ideas and incorporated them into the new design. The CCTV, floodlights and fencing are designed to allow all the park users to feel safe.”

The skate park will feature graffiti by artist Steve Dilk and will be officially launched on May 19 when a number of skateboard and BMX displays will be staged.
