THE COUNTY’S chamber of commerce has welcomed a £7.39m handout to help Derbyshire rollout superfast broadband to 90 per cent of homes and businesses.
The cash was released by culture secretary Jeremy Hunt on Tuesday and is set to be spent on ensuring everyone can access broadband in a bid to boost business investment.
Chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce George Cowcher said: “Superfast broadband will benefit everyone in the region and will be a major selling point for businesses and organisations looking to relocate to the East Midlands.
“However, there are other issues which local authorities and Government need to address in order to encourage investment and create the right environment for private sector growth.”
The county council now needs to draw up a rollout plan to secure the cash.
