Charity shop birth certificates mystery

An appeal has been launched by an Ilkeston registrar to find the owners of two mystery birth certificates found stashed in a picture frame.

A charity-shop worker found the important documents tucked inside an envelope and hidden behind a picture in a frame, which was handed into the Ilkeston store.

She promptly took them to the Lord Haddon Road registry office where deputy registrar Angela Gaunt is now hoping the owners will come forward.

“It would be fantastic if we can reunite these people with their certificates,” she said.

“It was obviously a mistake that they have been given to the charity shop”

The names on the certificates are Laura Martin, who was born in 1985 at Nottingham City Hospital, and Steven Flint, born in 1978 at the same hospital.

Angela said she did not want to reveal too much information about the documents for fear that someone will falsely claim them, but added that both have a connection to to Ilkeston.

“If these are yours, give us a ring but we will need some information from you to prove you are who you say you are,” she added. “I hope the owners will come forward otherwise we are going to have to shred them.”

If you think they belong to you, call Angela at the registry office on 0115 932 4844.
