Child of the Year competition starts

THE ILKESTON Advertiser is set to launch its popular Child of the Year 2012 competition.

As we sit here counting up all the votes for our Pets on Parade competition with a winner to be announced next week – it is now the turn of your children to show off their modelling skills.

To get your child involved in the competition come along to our open photo shoots from Tuesday May 15 to Saturday May 19 at Tesco in Ilkeston.

The photographer will be there from 10am to 4pm each day ready to take your child’s picture.

It costs nothing to take part, with all photographs in the competition appearing in a special supplement to be published in the Advertiser next month followed by a public vote to pick our winners.

There are three age categories with one winner from each category picking up a canvas print of the winning shot.

Last year’s winners were Noah James Marshall in the 0-12 months category, Brandon Derbyshire in the 13-24 month section, and Archie Twells in the 25-36 months competition.

They were crowned the 2011 winners after polling the most votes among readers – beating dozens of other competing youngsters to the titles.

We were inundated with votes for the three winners and it proved a very tight race in all three categories.

Ilkeston Advertiser editor Peter Hemmett said: “Our Child of the Year competition is an annual event and is always hugely popular.

“It never ceases to amaze me how lovely all our entrants in the competition are.

“If I had to chose the winners I would struggle so I’m glad they are chosen by our readers.

“We are looking forward to receiving entries for the Child of the Year Competition 2012.

“Make sure you pop along on one of the photo shoot days at Ilkeston Tesco. We can’t wait to see the entries.”
