Council cuts bus services for residents and schools

DERBYSHIRE County Council has announced it is axing bus services to five schools in the area and two passenger services as part of plans to save £3m from its public transport budget.

About 90 students at Kirk Hallam Community College living in West Hallam, Smalley, Stanley Common and Mapperley will have to make alternative arrangements to get to school after three services are axed in April 2012.

Others facing the chop are the service to Heanor Gate School from Stanley and, Morley, which carries 30 students, a service to English Martyr’s Catholic Primary School for about 25 Long Eaton children, and a service to Wilsthorpe School for 57 pupils.

The 19 service from Sandiacre to Long Eaton, which carries 43,000 passengers annually, will be completely withdrawn and six Black Cat services on Sundays and Bank Holidays from Derby to Heanor through Ilkeston, will also be axed.
