Former Navy man Malcolm Cowley met his wife Margaret as a teenager. “We met at the Co-op dance floor when I was 18. I asked her to dance and jive. We just took to each other,” he said.
The couple, of St Johns Road, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on March 17. They married at st John’s Church in 1956 and went on to have four children. Malcolm, aged 85, who joined the Navy aged 15, said the secret to a long and happy marriage was ‘a good argument every day, then making love every night.’ When Malcolm left the Navy which he called ‘the best part of his life’ he was a long distance lorry driver for 50 years. Margaret, aged 81, worked as a machinist at Rutland Garments. The couple celebrated with a party.
