Officers from Erewash Borough Council were involved in a regional crackdown on illegal taxis taking passengers to East Midlands Airport.

Seven Erewash vehicles were checked during the operation, one was found to have defective brake and side lights, and another did not have no smoking signage required by law.

Cllr Barbara Harrison, the council’s lead member for environment, said: “Public safety is the number one priority of all those who took part in this operation and is another example of how the council and its partners remain committed to working together for the benefit and safety of residents.

“The majority of taxi businesses in our borough are very responsible, but this operation should serve as a clear reminder that there is an important and legal duty to ensure their vehicles are safe and roadworthy.”
