Armed robbery drama at Cotmanhay shop

Armed robbers smashed their way into a Cotmanhay convenience store as staff were closing up last night (Thursday) to steal cash.

Two masked men used a crowbar to get in to One Stop in Charlotte Street at about 11pm.

One staff member had been emptying the ATM inside the store at the time and tried to run to the stock room at the back of the store where another member of staff was.

But the robbers pushed her to the floor and made off with the cash.

A witness saw the men get in to a green car waiting outside with a third man in the driving seat.

The witness followed in his own car as the robbers sped down Cotmanhay Road and on to Awsworth Road.

The car crashed at the junction of Shilo Way and the three men were seen running off along Newton’s Lane.

Police have recovered the car but the robbers at still at large.

They are described as all wearing black clothing and had their faces covered. They were each about 5ft 11ins tall and of average build.
